Is mindfulness the same as meditation?

Mindfulness is quite similar to meditation, though meditation can be thought of as a way to practice mindfulness, while mindfulness is more of a general state of being. Meditation is usually an intentional, formal practice, where someone sits and specifically focuses on calming their breathing, relaxing their mind, and getting rid of unwanted thoughts.

Mindfulness, on the other hand, is more about paying attention to your thoughts and actions and trying to be present throughout your daily life. Throughout the day, our minds often wander and race from thought to thought, and mindfulness works to counteract this. Mindfulness can be practiced anywhere and at any time.
