Introduction

Dr. Boles a license-eligible psychologist practicing in the Chicagoland area, working primarily with individuals and couples in non-traditional, ethically non-monogamous, intercultural, and/or interracial relationships. Dr. Boles specialized in traumatic stress psychology during her clinical training and education, which provided the framework for the compassion-based and holistic approach she takes when working with clients who have experienced difficult and stressful events in their lives. She also holds a certification in Primary Care Psychology, adding insight and knowledge about the way in which our bodies and minds interact in reaction to stress. Dr. Boles has traveled unconventional roads and had varied and broad experiences that have helped her to become a well-rounded broadly knowledgeable clinician with a vast understanding of how individual experiences, cultural backgrounds, privileges and identities held, and so many other things influence the way we each see and navigate the challenges in our lives. Dr. Boles approaches therapy from a collaborative stance, viewing the client as the expert on themselves and working with the client to creatively navigate stresses and obstacles in ways that utilize self-compassion to break down the barriers of guilt and shame that many of us create over the course of our lives. Dr. Blackman worked in community mental health, in-patient, and medical settings prior to his current position. Dr. Blackman provides counseling for children, adolescents, and adults. He utilizes individual and family counseling modalities in his work with adults and adolescents and employs play therapy techniques in working with children. Dr. Blackman believes that a client-focused, relational, and accepting therapeutic relationship encourages meaningful change and spiritual development. Further, he has found that maintaining an openness to the exploration and integration of faith and spirituality can be transformational for many individuals. Dr. Blackman primarily uses an existential framework to conceptualize his clients and incorporates techniques from cognitive-behavioral therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Dr. Blackman has experience working with treatment areas including treating both Survivors and Perpetrators of Abuse, Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Depression, Dissociation, DID, and various types of Traumatic Experiences. Dr. Blackman has also focused on work with people of color and intersectional identities including various gender and sexual identities.
