I am a bilingual (English-Spanish) and bicultural Licensed Professional Counselor Associate passionate and committed to helping children, teens, young adults and women discover their own strengths and develop new skills to overcome life challenges. As your therapist, I will create a safe, non-judgmental, person-centered space for you to process, heal, make new discoveries, and grow as an individual and in your relationship with yourself and others. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Dance from The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’em Horns) and my Master of Science in Professional Counseling from Angelo State University. I have enjoyed working with children, teens, parents and teachers for over 14 years. My knowledge and experience as a former teacher, school counselor, and School-Based Therapist allow me to support the unique needs of all school-aged children including behavior, social, emotional, and mental health issues and/or disorders. Also, my knowledge of the public school system helps me better support children/teens (and their parents) that need or receive accommodations in the school setting. Furthermore, as a former professional dancer, I strongly understand the demands, stress, and perfectionism that athletes and creatives face in their sport or craft, and I have the knowledge and experience to support them. Beyond my profession, my personal experiences such as major life transitions and loss have helped me to better understand, empathize and support others, as they navigate life obstacles. I work with clients with a variety of issues and mental disorders impacting their personal, school, and professional life, and/or their relationships. During our initial sessions we will work on building a relationship, identifying the main issues at hand, and collaboratively creating a plan to reach your desired outcomes. We will explore tools and strategies that work specifically for you, so you may start experiencing change. I strongly believe that everyone is capable of succeeding with the right tools and support. I invite you to take the first step and allow me to support you through your unique journey. Xochitl Gamas, MS, LPC Associate Supervised by Melissa Fleming LPC-S, RPT-S, CCST-T
