Helping my clients to cultivate a persistent felt sense of safety is my primary work. A basic sense of safety in one’s body is the foundation of everything that gives us a connection to life. Without it our nervous system will not allot the necessary resources to engage in long-term planning, goal driven action or connection with loved ones. Safety is not freedom from problems, challenges or conflict. It is not a fairytale. It is a deep sense of okayness despite the daily struggles and changes that life brings. It is a measurable state of our nervous system that I help my clients to gradually foster. This cultivation of safety takes place within the therapeutic relationship and in the way that you relate to yourself. Many people who struggle with symptoms associated with anxiety, OCD or PTSD often feel that their perceived deficiencies are the source of their distress and that strategizing more effective ways to utilize their time and attention will fix the way that they feel. This assumption leads people to try to shame and guilt themselves into correct action, and this is a recipe for burnout and overwhelm. Life’s challenges can feel manageable, motivating, even fulfilling to engage with, when we have a core sense of safety and wellbeing. Whether specific situations trigger anxiety, or you live in a perpetual state of unease, I’m here to help you to dissolve old patterns and cultivate a more steady grounded presence. I utilize a range of therapeutic modalities that range from highly structured to intuitive, to leverage your latent potential for wellbeing and growth. Give me a call or send me an email to schedule an initial consultation to get a sense of whether we might work well together.
