Hello, my name is William Martineau but I go by Cory. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, and I work with adults who have childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, and other issues. I have worked in the mental health field for over 9 years in different capacities including community based work, in the Boise crisis center, and for the last 3 years as a Counselor. In my time, I have worked with clients from various backgrounds and different struggles. My main approach to counseling is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or ACT. The reason I have chosen this as my main modalities is because I believe that avoidance has become very common in our society whether it is substance use, distractions, opting out of things, or even trying to think our way out of issues. While avoidance can be helpful in the short term, when we start paying attention we see that avoidance causes us to miss out on the things that we may value the most. Avoidance is natural though as we do not want to have difficult feelings, thoughts, or sensations. However, avoidance can also be detrimental as it may keep us from the activities, people, or values that we most care about. While I do believe ACT is very helpful, I am trained in several other modalities as well. EMDR has been shown to be very helpful to those who have experienced trauma in their past, and I use it to help my client process the traumatic or difficult experiences they have been through. The other modalities that I am trained in can help client increase regulation, develop greater self-compassion, and change unhelpful behaviors. I see myself as a curious, compassionate, and skills building Counselor. As your Counselor, it is my hope to help you develop awareness and insight into your behaviors, thoughts, urges, and feelings and how they affect your life, teach you skills and abilities to be with these difficult inner and outer world experiences, and process through past events that may still be affecting you. Reaching out for help can be difficult, so asking a total stranger takes an immense amount of strength and courage. If you feel like we would be a good match, feel free to call, email, or set up an appointment on here for an initial consultation.
