Why Therapy? Complex trauma is so common in our modern world. Most people have some impact from it, and may not even be aware of it. Complex Trauma robs people of their confidence, self esteem, and ability to thrive and shine in life. It leaves people feeling insecure, anxious, depressed, struggling with relationships, and often triggers people into shame spirals where they just feel like everything is unsafe, overwhelming, and out of control. When the hard feelings get triggered, often people struggling with complex trauma will reach for things to numb the pain such as overworking, constant activity, drinking excessively, eating too much or not eating enough, shopping, over exercising, sleep problems, and much more. These coping strategies keep us separate from our wise authentic self, and help us avoid our painful inner feelings, fears, and thoughts. How Does Therapy Help? Healing from trauma allows you to authentically connect back to yourself so that you can learn to be your own best supporter as you go through life. Instead of shutting down your internal voice and needs, you will embrace them with love and compassion. This world can be tough, but connecting confidently to your internal instincts brings a sense of security and peace that we cannot always find in the outside world. Healing is a process, and as Joseph Campbell says, it is a "Hero's Journey." It takes courage and strength to do this work, and yet, it is so worth it. Service Areas I specialize in treating complex trauma (CPTSD) in children, teenagers, and adults. I also specialize in the preparation and integration of psychedelic experiences for adults. Doing my own intensive therapy work for personal growth and healing, has given me a depth of understanding of the therapeutic process from the inside out. I am prepared to support and guide you as you follow your journey to healing and well-being. Experience I have over 16 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I have experience working with adults, teenagers, and children in a variety of settings. I have worked extensively with children, teenagers, and their parents in the school setting both as a teacher and as a school social worker. I have several years of experience volunteering for a county suicide hotline and rape crisis team. I have worked to support families dealing with abuse and neglect in getting help so they could safely stay together. I have worked with pregnant and parenting teens and teenagers and children with Asperger's Syndrome in the school setting. I also have a year of experience providing Intensive Family Treatment in an internship through social services. Through my various roles, I have supported adults, teenagers, and children with a multitude of issues including: depression, anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, sexual abuse, relationship issues, divorce, grief and loss, school problems, parenting issues, eating issues, building confidence, bullying, friendship skills, dealing with life changes, and more. In recent years, I have had experiences working with psychedelics and the preparation and integration of those experiences for healing and growth. This is a new area of mental health support that is gaining excitement as research is showing promising results for treating PTSD, Depression, and Anxiety. Preparation and Integration of Psychedelics (Adults Only) For adults interested in healing with psychedelics, preparing and determining whether or not a psychedelic experience is right for you is an important step. Integration after a psychedelic experience is also important to learn and grow from that experience. I am available to do preparation work before you go to an experience, and provide support for integration after those events to support you in your process, and to handle any hard things that may come up. I do not work with people during a psychedelic experience, and do not provide any psychedelic substances. My Approaches I use a variety of body centered approaches including EMDR, Brainspotting, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and more to support you in reconnecting to your core self. I believe that we all have an authentic core part inside of us that knows what we need to heal. I will support you in accessing that part so it can guide you in your healing path. You are in control, and we will build up your safety tools so that you feel comfortable to look at and handle any hard things that may come up. This is your therapy, so you will guide how fast and how deep we go. I trust your instincts to guide you where you need to go.
