Introduction

I knew I wanted to be a helper at a young age. My first experience with the psychology field was in my 9th grade Freshman Psychology 101 class, it was this class that helped me find my purpose. I earned my master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from St. Mary’s University and recieved my license to provide counseling as a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2009. My passion is helping clients work within their trauma. I am Trauma Focused CBT, DBT and EMDR certified. I have been providing counseling services for 10+ years in diverse settings. I experienced amazing opportunities working with clients and families in a school districts, juvenile detention centers, foster care, and treatment centers. Born and raised in Texas. I feel my life experiences as a Hispanic female, daughter, sister, mother, and recently added grandmother roles have given me an advantage as a counselor to be able to relate to the experiences that my client’s bring to session. What you will receive in counseling is a client tailored treatment plan based on individual need. Therapy techniques can include narrative therapy (talk therapy), art therapy, music therapy, hypnosis (relaxation therapy), DBT (Dialectic Behavior Therapy), and TFCBT( Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy). Individuals and families all have different reasons for seeking out counseling. Some reasons include seeking help to solve problems and work through issues arising from normal growth and developmental changes, facing unexpected events and/or crisis, and to increase satisfaction and meaning in their lives and relationships. Counselor's recognize the stress caused by school, work, family, and everyday living. Typically, people struggle with these kinds of issues internally, mulling them over in their minds trying to sort out possible solutions to their dilemmas. They may talk things over with family members and friends, but sometimes that may not feel like it is enough. This is where having counseling services is beneficial. As your counselor, I provide a safe and confidential environment to work through life’s issues. Counseling is not just a career or a job, it is my passion. Deciding to start counseling is the biggest step toward a healthy journey, as your counselor, it is my place to help you get through your journey successfully.
