Hey there, My name is Trevor. If you are reading my intro, then I'm assuming you are taking the brave first steps of reaching out for help and you want to know at least something about your helper. Well... Here's a bit about me and my approach to counseling. My approach to counseling assumes that EVERYONE suffers in some way or another, and that our lives are in a constant state of flux. Everything changes on its own at some point, but we can learn to steer change in a way that benefits us and those around us by better understanding how we respond to suffering. Therapy with me will focus on shifting perceptions of problems so that the problem becomes an opportunity for growth and connection. We also learn to let go of preconceived notions about who we are and how we think life should be. Learning to let go in this way allows us to gain clear insights into our struggles and failures, and improves our ability to accept and move through our problems. we will learn coping skills and mindfulness practices. Once new skills are learned and practiced, we can begin to discover new ways of responding to old issues, moving towards new possibilities that align with our deepest values. I received my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Georgia State University and completed my practicum and internship at the Decatur High School Student Center, where I primarily worked with adolescents and their families in groups and individual sessions on a variety of issues, including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, adjustment disorders, developmental delays, mood and personality disorders, social isolation, addiction, crisis and suicide intervention, gender identity and sexuality, and other mental health diagnoses with varying severity. Since then I have gained experience working with children 8yrs and older as well as individual adults at Path Group of Atlanta- a private psychiatry and psychotherapy practice in Atlanta, GA. I am certified and recognized as a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) by the National Board for Certified Counselors. As an Associate Professional Counselor (APC), I work under the supervision of Dr. Elana Zimand while working towards licensure as an LPC. I am trained and certified in ASSIST and Suicide-2-Hope (suicide interventions). I am also trained in Mindfulness integrated Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MiCBT), a systematic and holistic approach that integrates traditional Vipassana meditation techniques with modern CBT therapeutic interventions. If anything from my intro resonates with you and you would like to speak with me, then I would love for you to reach out via email at Tstrickland@pathgroupatl.com
