As an LGBTQ+ specialist and a person of color, I try to emphasize understanding and comfortability as much as I can with a client. I myself am agender and I use They/Them pronouns, so I know how cumbersome it can be to find a therapist and trust they will be able to understand me enough to know the reality of my problems in the context of my environment. I absolutely work with people who don't find themselves a part of the LGBTQ+ community and, if that applies to you, I think you'll find I offer a unique approach and perspective on issues that you have may have already tried on working on. In terms of what I treat, I have worked with clients struggling with depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, bipolar disorder, and substance use. Given that I am a specialist in LGBTQ+ studies, I'm competent in helping explore the unique problems we face in our day to day lives. I'm especially knowledgeable with transgender folks; I can work with people who are just questioning their identity, just getting started with transitioning, people with years of transitioning, and anyone in between. As you may imagine, I also work commonly with neurodivergent folks and know strategies helpful for this population. At the end of the day, my goal is to find the approach and therapy style that is going to match your speed while also pushing you to go beyond your potential. I emphasize concepts like self-compassion in my work, as I know how common it is to be our own worst enemy. I'm well accustomed to using modalities like CBT, DBT, and Gottman Method in my work. For those that want to push themselves even further, and potentially work on their trauma, I am also trained in EMDR therapy. I hope that if you do chose to schedule a consult with me and move forward with me, know that I am going to give you my best any day that I work with you, no matter what my best looks like on that day.
