Timothy Popanz, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist with over twenty-five years of experience in health care--working with older adolescents, adults, couples, and facilitating psycho-educational groups. He utilizes evidence-based approaches for health management and prevention. He has specific experience in the treatment of substance abuse, stress, anxiety, mood disorders, and trauma. He is also particularly interested in integrative health care--the interface between medical conditions and psycho-social factors--including a broad cultural competency. Dr. Popanz earned his doctorate degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., a social-justice oriented clinical program and completed his residency at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH, where he specialized in substance abuse the PTSD treatment. Dr. Popanz served as Clinical Director of an outpatient chemical dependency treatment facility in Seattle, Washington for five years before opening his private practice. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Popanz has been active in public policy legislation, primarily through the Washington State Psychological Association. He is an Association Past-President. Dr. Popanz has written several articles and lectured extensively across Washington on substance abuse treatment; Harm Reduction interventions with substance abusers and their families; and psychotherapy with LGBTQ patients.
