Introduction

Tamika received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Southern Connecticut State University. She obtained her Master of Science degree in Counseling with a concentration in Clinical Mental Health from the University of Bridgeport. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA). She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota International Counseling Honor Society. Her clinical interests include Anxiety, Depression, Anger Management, Emotional Disturbances, Self-esteem, Family Conflict, Stress Management, and effective Communication/Coping Skills. Tamika utilizes a variety a techniques and skills drawn from evidence-based modalities, including but not limited too Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivated Interviewing, Psychoeducation, Play Therapy, behavior modification, mindfulness and relaxation. She continues to seek ongoing trainings to increase her skills and knowledge base. Tamika has an empathic and genuine ability to connect with and work effectively with children, adolescents, adults, families and groups. She has worked with a diverse population of clients to serve their mental and emotional health needs through individual, family, and group counseling. She is a therapist that brings an extensive amount of experience from her educational, as well as, her professional background. Tamika has over 18yrs of experience working in a variety of professional settings, such as, several public-school systems, residential group homes, therapeutic shelters, inpatient hospital setting and a private practice. Tamika is very passionate about helping people through their emotional, mental, and/or relational difficulties. She strives to create a safe, non-judgmental, respectful and a collaborative space with her clients. She teaches her clients how identify their own existing strengths. She provides them with the necessary tools and strategies needed to navigate through life’s ups and downs. Tamika strives to help her clients to increase their self-awareness, gain new perspectives, decrease symptoms, and increase their personal strengths in order to have a more meaningful life experience.
