Hello, and welcome to taking that brave first step in seeking the support you need to reach your optimal daily living! I would love to be that system of support for you and help you to reach your full potential. As always, you can depend on Southern Breeze Counseling to protect your confidentiality at all times. Here is a little bit about myself and how I would love to use my skills to help you. My name is Summer McGowan, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Missouri and owner of Southern Breeze Counseling. I graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with an MA in School Counseling, EdS in Counseling Education, and my Psychological Examiner Certificate. I am also an ADHD Certified Clinical Services Provider and a National Certified Counselor. I have worked in the field of education for 18 years as an elementary teacher, special education process coordinator, psychological examiner, elementary counselor, and high school counselor. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and teens with academic, emotional, social, and behavioral issues. I have experience working with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, grief, loss, anger management, extreme behaviors, relationship issues, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, ADHD, foster care placement, and victims of abuse. While I do not limit myself to one particular style of therapy, I tend to draw from Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused therapy approaches, Mindfulness techniques, Positive Psychology, and Motivational Interviewing. I believe that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components of counseling and crucial to the success of counseling. I strive to develop a therapeutic relationship built on empathy, mutual trust, respect, and caring. I also strive to work collaboratively with my clients to help them identify their specific problems, issues, or challenges in life, help them realize their strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and work as a system of support in helping them reach their goals. While the past is important and has its influence and place in therapy, most of my work focuses on the present and how we can make changes in our current mindset, thinking, and patterns of behavior in the present to create the changes in our life that we desire. Congratulations on taking that first step in finding a system of support to help you reach your goals. If you feel that my approach and style are a good fit for your unique needs, I would love the opportunity to work with you!
