Introduction

Hello and welcome to my profile. I'm glad that you are here. My name is Steven and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (MH10873) in the State of Florida. I am trained in a variety of therapeutic and counseling approaches, techniques, and mental health assessments. For more than 20 years, I have had a strong interest in working in mental health, and while in college I decided to pursue this interest as a career. I consider myself a natural empath and have experience working with clients of varying ages, genders, sexual orientations, faiths, educational backgrounds, ethnicities, and cultural backgrounds. As with any therapist, I believe that my life experiences, both successes, and hardships, have shaped my therapeutic work. I’ve known the challenges and pressures of being the youngest child in a large family system; the retail and higher education worlds of work (including layoffs, financial cutbacks/constraints, and office politics); caring for family members with special needs and disabilities, who are struggling from poor health, or experiencing active addictions; being part of a multicultural family system; navigating the college experience; making career changes and many other stressors that can make life difficult. Additionally, as a husband and father, I have experienced the many joys and challenges that accompany marriage and parenting. In addition to my practice, I currently serve as a licensed counselor at the University of North Florida Student Counseling Center and teach college courses for the Departments of Psychology at Jacksonville University and the University of North Florida. I look forward to the opportunity to be able to help support you meet your personal and mental health goals!
