Nice to meet you here on your search for a therapist. My name is Stephanie Slapik. I am a licensed clinical social worker and I practice a type of therapy called relational psychodynamic psychotherapy. I believe in this type of therapy as a way to make long-lasting, meaningful change in a way that feels authentic and true to you. I see clients in-person on Saturdays on a weekly basis. I will have weekday appointments available starting in August. My office is in Oakland about 1/2 mile from the Rockridge BART station. Clients often experience me as warm and understanding, and also present, direct and honest. I enjoy being a therapist and have deep respect for the challenges each person experiences over the course of living. I am invested in working with you to understand your experience and begin to explore ways of making change. Trauma, marginalization, and other people’s expectations can get in the way of knowing ourselves and knowing what we want our life to look like. The type of therapy I practice focuses on listening to find the parts of yourself that have been harder to notice or pay attention to. In the course of our work we may learn about unknown strengths, and also parts of yourself that have been secretly working against you. First let's schedule a phone call to begin to explore what is bringing you to therapy at this time and see if we may be a good fit to work together. You can ask me any questions you have about therapy or working with me. In our first session, we may further explore what has been going on, how it has impacted you, and what you want to get out of therapy. Sometimes people know something is not right or needs to change, but don't quite know what it is. This is something we can work on together. If we decide to continue meeting weekly, we may spend time exploring how you feel about yourself, how you feel in your relationships, and how you feel being a person in this world. I have experience working with individuals who have a wide range of life experiences, identities, and interests. My hope is to create a space in which anything can be talked about.
