www.kimberlycounselingservices.com I am a licensed professional counselor for the states of Pennsylvania and Arizona with thirty years of experience working in the human services and education fields. My past experience includes outpatient mental health, inpatient mental health, a dual diagnosis program, mental health roles in schools and homes, and teaching in a public school. Trauma Services Going through a traumatic experience can make it challenging to find joy in your everyday life. Coping with discomfort shouldn’t be normalized for a person to go through on their own. Psychotherapy, as well as cognitive-behavioral therapy, are different therapeutic techniques that I utilize to help you identify and work through your trauma. Both techniques are often referred to as talk therapy. Psychotherapy You speak about your struggles, and I work you through a healing process. What problems is your trauma causing you on a regular basis? Let’s get you to a place where you are willing to open up and share experiences with me so we can get you feeling content and in control again. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy Everyone has behaviors and attitudes that impact the way they look at the world. Being able to identify the relationship between your feelings and actions is one of the main goals of CBT. How did you handle a situation in the past that was most likely driven by your emotions? Let’s think about it, talk about it, write about it—there are several ways Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy can help you see situations from a healthier point of view. To help yourself make changes in how you see the world, you need to identify what is driving certain feelings and behaviors. When we are making more positive decisions, we ultimately feel better—let’s get you there. Anxiety Anxiety disorders can bring intense fear and worry about everyday situations. The persistence of these feelings can become overbearing and lead to panic attacks and/or complete physical shutdown. There are several different types of anxiety beyond general, and each type can be triggered by different things. I practice different types of talk therapy like psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy. These are the most effective types of therapy for anxiety disorders, and they allow me to identify where your triggers lie. You will learn specific skills that you can put to use when your symptoms arise, or when you believe a triggering situation is on the horizon. My goal is to help you build your confidence back so that you can manage any situation where your triggers usually take place. Overtime, you will return to activities you have come to avoid due to anxiety with ease, and feel the empowerment it brings. Depression Finding changes in your mood and behavior can be very scary and confusing. When these changes include intense sadness and feeling hopeless, it can become overwhelming, to say the least. I practice two of the most effective forms of treatment for depression, cognitive behavioral therapy and psychotherapy. Taking part in these treatments can reassure you that you are on the path to success while we are working together. Identifying potentially harmful thoughts and behaviors gives us the pathway to help change them. Using this form of talk therapy helps navigate distorted thoughts that may be leading you to a negative perception of yourself and life. Developing a more realistic outlook and learning to not discount good things is a huge part of the type of therapy we will practice together. Let me help you create a worry-free zone. Grief Adapting to loss is one of the most natural processes of the human experience. And oftentimes, it can also be the hardest. Grief comes in many different forms, and it isn’t limited to the death of a loved one. No matter what your loss is, accepting, processing, and adjusting to a new normal is what we will work on together to get you through this struggling time. Grief looks different for everyone and there is no “wrong” way to feel. Using talk therapy techniques, we will identify what your emotions are towards your loss, we will understand them, and work through it all together. College Mental Health The demands of the modern-day college student can be a lot to handle. You invest a lot of time, energy, and money into your education alone– sometimes the other aspects that come with young adulthood can make the entire experience overbearing. As a mother of two college students, I see it firsthand. Trying to stay social with friends, being involved in extracurricular clubs like sports or Greek life, new relationships, jobs, it can all become too much. Having someone to talk to is super important to prevent the crash and burn that many college students experience at the end of each semester. My talk therapy sessions will guide you in a way that breaks down your current day-to-day and helps you feel more control over your reality. Together we will identify your strengths and use them to help achieve your goals one step at a time. Addiction No matter what type of addiction you suffer from, it can affect your family, work, social life, and more importantly your physical and mental well-being. It can be scary to feel like you’re not in control of your actions and the impact they have on your life. Addiction comes in several forms and often has multiple steps in the healing process. There are multiple outside factors that can lead to addiction and you can learn to control them over time. When working together, you will participate in talk therapy I provide as an initial treatment in itself, or as an additional treatment to help you work through it as a whole. Identifying the triggers and struggles that lead you to partake in your addiction will help us come up with a game plan to use your strengths to minimize them. Your addiction does not define you, it is simply something you go through. You are not alone and there are several ways to combat this disease– let me help you heal.
