Sonya Thompsen Halsey is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Coach with 22 years of experience working with couples, families, adolescents and children in community mental centers and in private practice. For the last six years, Sonya has focused primarily on working with couples, one of her specialties. Her approach is strengths-based and positive. She considers herself to be a "marriage-friendly" therapist which often means she appreciates the differences between people that others may believe are irreconcilable. Sonya believes that it is through our relationships that we find our best selves and live happier, healthier lives. Her approach is clear, warm and collaborative and is aimed at providing short-term relief and long-term growth. Sonya received her MA in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University in Los Angeles and has taken courses toward certification in Sex Therapy at the Council for Relationships in Philadelphia. She also received her MA in English from Columbia University in New York while she was teaching middle and high school English at Columbia Preparatory School. She has also taught undergraduate psychology courses at Mount Saint Mary’s College in Los Angeles.
