Dr. Sherry Tankersley is an experienced and compassionate clinical psychologist who specializes in individual, couples, and group therapy to help her clients move beyond obstacles. She feels strongly that, as human beings, we all have our stuff, and as such, psychological work is growth-oriented and focused on resolving those things that block our potential for joy and achievement. Her work is based on the belief that people have within themselves the resources to be happy, effective and successful in their lives. She believes that psychotherapy can help increase self-understanding, improve relationships, resolve issues, and create paths to toward one’s highest potential. Dr. Tankersley is trained in multiple modalities including EMDR, existential and humanistic therapies, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, trauma-focused therapy, emotionally focused therapy, family system therapy, creative therapy techniques, and mindfulness techniques. In addition to her Ph.D. in clinical psychology, she is certified in transpersonal psychology, which integrates the spiritual, honors the existence of transcendent experiences, and explores meaning for the individual. She has been a certified yoga instructor since 2007, and she regularly taught yoga and meditation for many years. She integrates these into an insightful, holistic, and effective approach for each client. Prior to establishing Integral Psychology Circle, Dr. Tankersley worked in a variety of settings with clients across the age span from various backgrounds. Her clinical experience includes working with persons with serious mental illness and personality disorders, persons with severe autism, forensic psychiatric patients, and persons recovering from PTSD, developmental trauma, anxiety, depression, and life transitions. She has come to specialize in couples and trauma work. Understanding that individual and relationship issues are deeply intertwined, she works with clients to gain meaning and insight that then empowers patients to make lasting changes in their lives. Dr. Tankersley has experience working in the financial industry and with organizational psychology. She currently provides of variety of forensic evaluations, including competency and custody evaluations. She has taught psychological evaluation topics at the doctoral level.
