I believe that healing from past hurts and traumas occurs when people are offered the opportunity to heal in a safe and healthy environment. I value working collaboratively with my patients and strive to create an equal power balance in our relationship. This means that clients who work with me get to make decisions about what they believe is the best course of treatment for them. I regularly tell my clients, "You will always be the expert on you and you will always know you better than I do." I consider all facets of a person when I present treatment approaches. In addition to a multicultural feminist therapy approach, I also use evidence-based skills and techniques from other therapy modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), and client-centered therapy. I have found that the combination of these therapies foster healing.
