Introduction

You probably wouldn't be reading this bio if everything in your life were awesome. If that's the case, I'm sorry. But I also firmly believe that the times in which we struggle, we develop our character the most. I'm a seasoned, board-certified, clinical psychologist with over 30 years of experience as both a clinician and professor. I've trained hundreds of other practicing psychologists, conducted and published clinical research, and directed training clinics and health care organizations. I continue to see individual clients because therapy is my first love. No matter where you are, you have the capacity to use life to grow, change, and become deeper and wiser. My practice is grounded in science. There is a vast empirical literature on what makes good therapy effective, and that has shaped my practice. I've found over the years, though, that the more genuinely "me" I am in the therapy room, the more I'm able to help. So I mix the science with a healthy dose of compassion, laughter, and genuineness. A few notes about my practice: I believe that healthcare suffers from a lack of transparency when it comes to the business aspects, and I want to counter that. At the present time, I don't take insurance, but can provide what is called a "superbill": a detailed receipt that can be used to get "out of network" reimbursement if your insurance covers mental health services. Therapy is also reimbursable through HSA accounts. I happily provide all the documents needed to help you minimize your out of pocket costs. My rates are clearly listed on this web page, so there is no guessing or uncertainty. I generally keep a client's credit card on file, and the system automatically bills the card when we have a session, so there are no surprises. Bitcoin is also an option to ensure confidentiality if that is your preference. That way we can just focus on the work together. People come in to therapy for a wide variety of reasons: some want to establish and keep a connection to maintain their overall healthcare, whereas some want to just get in, work on a specific thing, and get out. If you'd like to chat to see if you would be a good fit for my practice, I am more than happy to have a free consultation to help you make your decision.
