My name is Sarah Hamm Spencer, and I am a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years experience practicing in both private and non-profit settings. I have worked in the hospice arena, a children's hospital, and residential settings for children and teens. I have provided services via telehealth and in clients’ homes and schools. I draw on various therapy modalities - cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-informed, flash technique, motivational interviewing, and person centered - to meet my clients where they are. Throughout my vast professional experience, I have developed a keen appreciation for the fact that life can be challenging as we age. There can be incredible emotional and physical pressure as we care for someone who is declining in health while also trying to take care of ourselves. It also can be frustrating, challenging, and scary, as one’s own health is declining. Friendships can change, living situations change, or we may lose a spouse or partner in death or divorce. Often we experience separation from extended family, and we can feel alone in coping with the many responsibilities and roadblocks that one can experience as one ages. And while aging is certainly challenging, I also believe that it can be very fulfilling. I know one can experience joy and peace, as one ages. We are all interconnected, and I strongly believe that, when we receive the support we need, whether it is emotionally, physically, financially, and/or spiritually, it is that interconnectedness that helps each of us to adapt to challenges and to create the best life we can for ourselves and others. https://www.atlantaeldercarecounselor.com/
