I'm Sarah Chavez, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California. Welcome to my practice. I’m glad you’re here. You've made the decision to seek therapy today. Maybe this was at the suggestion of a concerned family member or friend. Maybe this choice came from desperation after feeling stuck in other ways of trying to feel better. Maybe you are confident that something in your life needs to change, but are completely at a loss with how to put it into action. What I know for certain is that, at some point or another, we all struggle with something that's bigger than us - or has our loved ones struggling with how to support us - and requires a supportive professional relationship to heal. Everything we feel, think, and do serves a purpose. Our bodies are uniquely designed to keep us alive and maintain our social relationships. It is through this lens that I approach all emotional/behavioral "problems" in therapy; I don't see them as flaws, but rather, as information that we can use to understand you more deeply, and ultimately craft change. I understand the mixed emotions that can be involved in starting therapy. Even though I'm a health professional, I'm still a human (and a stranger), to whom you are bringing some of your darkest struggles and most precious desires. Ensuring that you feel comfortable working with me is of utmost importance. Please reach out to schedule a free consultation. I have advanced certification in Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT) by the Pain Psychology Center. I am also certified in Level 1 Gottman Therapy techniques.
