Introduction

Are you looking for an experienced, well versed counselor to help you overcome obstacles that stand in the way of your achieving personal and professional goals? You have come to the right place. After more than 30 years in the mental health field, Sandra Moenssens is perfectly suited to help you in the quickest way possible. Her education includes a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with honors from American University in Washington, D.C. She continued her education at Barry University in Orlando, Florida, where she earned her Master’s degree in Counseling in 2006. Sandra is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Florida. Her multifaceted approach takes into account a client’s value and culture to determine what’s important to them, then integrates those into the counseling theories she favors. These include, but are not limited to: Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) Gottman method for couples Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy Trauma-focused interventions Solution-focused therapy Narrative therapy Play therapy with Sand Tray Since January 2009, she has run her business Counseling for Your Success as owner and head therapist. Sandra’s work has resulted in referrals across generations. Some clients return to her through different developmental phases as their lives evolve, with some having been with her throughout their childhood and into adulthood. She is grateful for these returning clients and the referrals they make to other family members, which she considers the highest compliment. During her career, she has specialized in several areas of mental health. Her work began with children and adolescents with anxiety. Her book, “Testing Success: Learning to Control Anxiety,” outlined techniques that helped kids relieve some of the pressures and emotions that come with taking tests. She expanded that work to include several workshops and coaching sessions that have helped clients succeed and achieve their scholastic goals. Sandra’s experience with struggling to keep her own interpersonal relationships healthy informs her work in family and couples counseling. Her goal in those areas is to help couples communicate better and build healthy, strong relationships using various methods, including the research-based Gottman method. Sandra also enjoys helping people overcome traumatic experiences and bringing them back to their best self. She had to overcome her own trauma in 2011, when her house burned down. When that happened, she felt like she lost herself in the ruins. However, through eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, she healed and rebuilt her life. She found the therapy so impactful and transforming that she felt compelled to educate herself in this treatment to help her own clients heal. She became an EMDR therapist and achieved certification in 2017. Sandra is an innovator in the community and has recently incorporated the health benefits of water into her therapy sessions. Her Aquatic Psychotherapy method takes people into the water as they navigate the process of healing. As a longtime competitive swimmer, she understands the peace that comes with being in the water. This peace provides for a more intimate connection with yourself that allows the client to get results they seek. To find out more about this type of therapy and to sign up for these new and exciting therapeutic adventures with Sandra place contact her via text or e-mail. Sandra has become a leader in the field of mental health. She served as president of CFAMFT in 2013 and 2014. She also had the honor of being a field-trial contributor to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM-5 Revised), which is considered the field’s most authoritative manual of mental disorders. In 2018, Sandra received the Distinguished Service Award from the Central Florida Association for Marriage and Family Therapy from her peers. She also supervises mental health interns working toward licensure. She takes a sense of pride in watching them grow as they move forward in their journey toward becoming licensed as Mental Health Counselors and Marriage and Family Therapists. Sandra’s humanistic approach to counseling helps her understand clients’ challenges, while her vast experience gives her clients the tools to help empower them toward personal growth and healing while honoring their culture and value system.
