Introduction

Welcome to Haven Counseling PLLC. I am Samantha. I am a Licsensed Mental Health Counselor. I have been seeing patients since 2014 for a variety of Mental Health Concerns. I reside in the Midwest and specialize in EMDR, Trauma Informed Practices and am currently adding Equine (horse) Assisted Psyhotherapy services and Somatic Experiencing work to my specialties. I also use Acceptance and Comittment Therapy, CBT, DBT, and IFS approaches. I currently see all clients virtually, except for Equine Therapy clients. I believe in the value of realtionships in therapy and the power of learning how to build healthy, safe relationships, both with oneself and others, as a helpful tool to aid in healing trauma and relational wounds. I work with clients to learn to be more connected to themselves, their physical bodies, sensations, emotions and needs in order to create these kinds of relationships in their lives. I work well with clients who are motivated to learn, grow, and embrace the change process in their lives. I am most comfortable working with clients aged 14yrs and up and primarily work with individual and adult clients in my practice who have had relational or early life traumas. I also work clients who are experiencing stage of life changes and working to decision make as they work towards the next steps for themselves. I am comfortable and accpeting of all walks of life, backgrounds and orientations. Gentle humor, challenging, acceptance and grace are all welcomed and a part of my therapy sessions. Movement, Somatic Experiencing, Relational Attunement and Attachment are incorporated into Equine therapy sessions and are relationally based. These principles are also included in all other therapy sessions as well, even if one does not choose to work with equines in their sessions. ***Prior intake/assessment appointment is recommended for Equine Therapy candidates to assess appropriateness of fit and discuss equine and human safety procedures, appropriate dress depending on weather conditions for sessions, and facility information and waivers/liability. ***Equine Therapy Sessions are conducted in person at Barnum Equestrian Center, Indianola, IA
