Introduction

“A recovery coach is a person who helps remove personal and environmental obstacles to recovery, links the newly recovering person to the recovering community, and serves as a personal guide and mentor in the management of personal and family recovery.” --William White When I finally reached out for help with my alcohol abuse, I found myself facing the daunting prospect of navigating my way through an uncharted and often unpredictable path. In the early stages of my sobriety, I was introduced to Recovery Coaching by my therapist who encouraged me to explore this avenue as part of my own recovery process. The more I discovered and learned about the services and guidance that a recovery coach provided, I became more and more convinced that this was something that I wanted to become. I can think of nothing more rewarding than helping others on their personal journeys to sobriety so that they too might once again live their lives to their fullest and most joyful potentials. Achieving sobriety in July of 2020 gave me back my life and I know that I would not be where I am today without the acceptance, dedication, compassion and guidance that I received from my coaches. I believe very deeply that this is a journey that cannot and should not be done alone. Just as my recovery coach was there with me to help me overcome obstacles, to encourage me to forgive my setbacks and to celebrate my triumphs, I would like to be that steadfast person for others as they navigate their own paths to sobriety.
