Hello- I’m Ron, I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who has a passion for working with others to help them achieve their goals. I decided to become a clinical psychologist when I was nine years old, though unexpected life events led me to taking the scenic route to get here. These diverse life experiences have been a foundation on which I have based my philosophy of life. I gained business and life experience through growing up and working on my family’s farm, owning a computer store, and through 17 years as a real estate broker, though I always felt the pull to follow my dreams. I have used what I learned along the way to work with diverse populations in both metropolitan areas and in the smallest of towns. My training in a multicultural psychologist program has also helped me develop and value the skills and awareness to continue to learn about various types diversity, privilege, and how to meet people where they are. To me, learning about other cultures is a lifelong journey that I have enjoyed exploring. I have enjoyed working with those from many walks of life, from different cultures, countries, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, gender identities, and religious identities. While I value and adhere to evidence-based practice, my sense of humor and flexibility reflect my ability to develop strong therapeutic relationships and to balance my light-hearted nature with empathy, understanding, and effective strategies to deal with life’s most challenging circumstances. I know an important predictor of treatment success is the relationship between you and your therapist, so I try to pay special attention to active listening and understanding the experience and values of those with whom I work. I continue to be actively involved in research about trauma and relationship functioning and am in the process of several scientific journal publications. My training in general clinical psychology developed skills to work with symptoms of anxiety, depression, panic, and other general life challenges. I generally approach treatment from the perspective of my client’s values and what is important to them in their lives. My specialist training is in working with couples and in treating combat and sexual trauma. I also provide individual, group, and couple’s treatment. My treatment approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Motivational Interviewing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), among other empirically supported treatments for a variety of needs for both individuals, parents, and couples. In my personal life, I have a passion for music, cooking, art, and learning. I can usually be found with a musical instrument in my hand when it is time to unwind or spending time with my family and my dog. I also love exploring music and have often ended up in long conversations with people I meet about great artists. I look forward to hearing from you soon! Best Wishes, Dr. Ron C. Bean
