I am a trauma, relationship and grief therapist in Westlake in Austin, TX. My passion is helping adult individuals and couples find healing and to live full and meaningful lives. My training in EMDR, Coherence Therapy and PACT couples therapy are foundational to my practice. MY APPROACH My approach to therapy is rooted in the brain’s ability to change and grow through relationship. Two primary frameworks that influence the way I approach therapy are Interpersonal Neurobiology and Attachment Theory. Interpersonal Neurobiology is the study of how the brain adapts and transforms through our relationships. Attachment theory is the roadmap to our relationship style that forms with our first caregivers. I believe through relationships with others we grow and expand as individuals. Therapeutic relationships, in particular, can be transformative, offering a safe space in which to face life events and personal struggles. INDIVIDUAL WORK: In individual therapy, I collaborate with each client to create a unique treatment plan to address their specific needs and goals. Once unhelpful beliefs, patterns or symptoms are identified, I work with clients to make meaningful growth towards their goals. Depending on the person, we may examine the impact of childhood or relational wounds, discover and integrate new learnings, heal past trauma, or navigate bereavement. The therapeutic modalities I use are evidenced-based treatments for a variety of mental health disorders and effective for a variety of life stressors and issues. See the section on modalities to learn more. COUPLES: Couples often seek counseling when their relationship reaches a point of hopelessness. When this happens, hearts might be broken, trust diminished, and resentment at an all time high. In couples sessions, I aim to give each partner a space to be heard and understood, to address and confront underlying issues in a healthy and productive way and, ultimately, to help create a secure functioning relationship. When working with couples, I help them rewire their habitual communication patterns, rebuild trust and improve connection and intimacy. The type of therapy I use for couples is the Gottman Method and PACT (Psychobiological Approach of Couples Therapy). GROUP WORK: I offer two types of group therapy: 1) Interpersonal process groups, which is a free-style group that focuses on the relationships between group members, noticing moment-to-moment shifts in feelings within the group in order to grow relationally. 2) Grief group: A more structured, therapeutic approach. where group members will be guided through five key topics: acceptance, feeling emotions and pain, reviewing their new world of meanings, rebuilding relationship with what has been lost, and thriving through grief.
