Growing up with my Father serving as a police officer in the Tacoma Police Department, played a role in my desire to serve others. Seeing firsthand, the impact the lack of treatment and care has on an individual in need of unique or acute assistance, led me to dedicate myself to assisting individuals from all walks of life; in their pursuit towards recovery and lifelong maintenance of mental and physical well-being. I utilize Motivational Interviewing with a Humanistic/Existential approach as a foundation to my therapy. Which means understanding that a "whole" person is more than the sum of his or her parts. I understand people by examining their interpersonal relationships. That people have many levels of self-awareness, that can be neither ignored nor put into an abstract context. I also believe individuals have free will and are participants rather than observers in their own lives; and that people's lives have purpose, value and meaning. I choose to submerge myself into the world of the person; I am working with. I use a combination of modalities and methods, dependent on each unique individuals need, such as: aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; guided imagery and meditation exercises and skills are also incorporated. Change emotional thinking and behavioral patterns causing distress. Improve mental and physical wellness through developing skills and problem-solving. Emphasis is placed on actions and thoughts within ones "own” control, rather than blaming or controlling others. Therapy is based on a trusting relationship, highlighting safety; being heard and respected.
