Thank you for taking the first step to reach out for support. My name is Ru and I have a passion for working with individuals from marginalized backgrounds, specifically the LGBTQ+ community and racial/ethnic minorities, whose identities haves shaped the way they experience and navigate the world, along with their mental health needs. As a person of color and a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I draw from systems theories in order to better understand the context of my clients' lived experiences and their identities. My therapeutic approach is holistic in which I integrate physiological experiences and psycho-education into my work with clients to help them find balance and feel empowered in their lives. My therapeutic style is compassionate, authentic, validating yet firm, and is collaborative with clients. I greatly encourage feedback to make sure I'm providing the support my client's are looking for and to further individualize counseling. I strive to create an accepting and safe space for clients to identify strengths, process their lived experiences, and navigate overwhelming emotions using a culturally- responsive trauma-informed perspective. I'm currently under the direct supervision of Dr. Erika Pluhar and I'm working to get my certification in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Sex Therapy for couples and individuals who identify with consensual non-monogamous relationships and other relationship minorities. I am both kink-aware and affirming.
