Introduction

From a young age, we are deeply influenced by our experiences in the world and our relationships with others. These experiences, and the meanings we make from them, are often internalized – becoming part of us on both a conscious and unconscious level. We make sense of this the best we can. This sometimes results in us developing ways of thinking, behaving, and relating to others that can be self-defeating and cause pain in our lives. Yet often we are unaware that these patterns are the source of our distress. Other times we recognize this but remain baffled by our seeming inability to change what we so desperately wish to. Psychodynamic psychotherapy allows us to understand how our past and present interact. It gives us insight into who we were, who we are, and who we can become. We begin to become aware of and recognize our emotions, patterns, and beliefs. Through this process we begin to discover a sense of self that leads to a happier, healthier, and more productive life. There is no right or wrong reason to come to therapy and people seek therapy for a multitude of reasons. Sometimes it is because they are experiencing distressing feelings, thoughts, or events in their lives. Other times problems in interpersonal relationships, feelings of unfulfillment, identity concerns, or an internal sense that something is “not right” brings them in. Regardless of your reasons for seeking therapy, I strive to create a warm, supportive, and collaborative relationship with my clients where they can feel safe to express and explore their innermost selves. I understand that seeking therapy for the first time or finding a new therapist to work with can be intimidating. Please reach out if you have any questions or would like to schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation before scheduling a session.
