I have 30 + years of experience as a licensed psychologist helping clients with a wide range of human problems, such as depression, anxiety, sleep problems, mood problems, unskillful behaviors, identity issues, relationship difficulties, aging, coping with chronic illness, mortality, trauma, and loss. I have spent many years tailoring my therapeutic methods to the individual needs of the client. I focus on developing an engaged authentic therapeutic relationship rooted in deep listening, empathy and compassion. My therapy approach is grounded in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) that teaches acceptance and mindfulness skills along with behavior-change strategies. These skills promote psychological health by teaching clients to be psychologically flexible and to undo harmful self-protective thinking and avoidant behaviors. ACT skills teach clients how their efforts to suppress or control painful emotional experiences actually create barriers to change and improved psychological health. Clients learn the necessary skills to flexibly live with difficult life circumstances, experiencing relief from anxiety, depression and distressing emotions.
