Services Offered: - Individual Counseling/ Therapy for adults ages 18+ - Individual Supervision and consultation - Private Practice Startup and Career Consultation for mental health therapists I am Veronica, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and bilingual therapist (English and Mandarin Chinese/中文). I hold a Bachelor of Science in Child, Youth, and Family Studies from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a Master of Social Work specializing in clinical mental health from University of Pittsburgh. Prior to starting my own practice, I worked at the University Counseling Center at University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Center for Eating Disorders. In my free time. I enjoy traveling, reading, cooking, writing, playing with my pets (Lulu, Nana and Poppy) and trying new things. I do not see my clients as people with problems and diagnosis, but individuals who hold unique life stories, identities, and strengths. I have most experience working with clients struggling with academic and professional stress, relationship and family issues, traumas, emotion regulation, depressive and anxiety symptoms, and eating disorders. Many of my clients started therapy with me because they: - Struggle with anxiety, depressive or eating disorder symptoms and would like to understand more about what triggered and perpetuated the cycle of symptoms and acquire tools to effectively manage them. - Are under lots of stress, an overthinker, or a perfectionist who feel depleted and burnt out but are deeply afraid of disappointing others and not living up to their expectations. - Identify as Asian or Asian American and are grappling with the complex and layered meaning and dynamics that come along with this identity. - Want to understand more about how problems of their relationships with loved ones and friends got started and escalated and how they can start working through them to have more satisfying relationships. - Are survivors of traumas who would like to have a safe space to process through and heal from previous traumas and hurtful experiences and live a life that feels safe, meaningful, and free from past trauma’s lurking shadows. - Want to improve their ability to understand and deal with their emotions in a healthy way and improve their emotional resiliency. As a therapist, I believe my role encompasses offering you a safe space to process and make sense of your past experiences, and supporting you in creating a life that feels intentional, meaningful and rich for you. I do not just offer tools to help you feel better now, collaboratively, we will explore the patterns and meaning of your emotions, behaviors and experiences and how past incidents have contributed to your current challenges. I will help you get to know more about your inner experiences so that you could gain insights and clarity to your current situations and start taking actions that feel empowering to you. I describe myself as a relational eclectic therapist, meaning I strive to create a safe and non-judgmental space to hold your emotions and experiences and aim at pulling various techniques and interventions from different models of therapy to create a treatment plan that works for you. I do not like to "manualize" our time together because I believe the healing power of therapy is harnessed through the process of me getting to know you, us building a safe and genuine therapy relationship and collaboratively creating an individualized plan that fits you well. While I believe short-term therapy can be helpful for clients, I gravitate more towards longer-term therapy. I find it usually takes time to help clients build a sense of trust and safety in our therapy relationship, as well as to strengthen their current resources before they are ready to explore longstanding patterns and problems. You could read more about the therapeutic interventions and clinical approaches I utilize at the bottom of this page under "approaches". Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or would like to explore if I am the right fit for you as a therapist.
