I am Veronica, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania and bilingual therapist (English and Mandarin Chinese) with over seven years experiences working in the mental health field. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Child, Youth, and Family Studies from University of Nebraska-Lincoln (minors: German and sociology) and a Master of Social Work specializing in clinical mental health from University of Pittsburgh. Prior to starting my own practice, I worked at the University Counseling Center at University of Pittsburgh and UPMC Center for Eating Disorders. In my free time. I enjoy reading, cooking, writing, traveling, and spending time with animals. I want to share with my clients... Life is a journey full of surprises, experiences and challenges, and sometimes we all need a little bit more support and guidance along the way. I do not see my clients as people with problems and diagnosis, but individuals who hold unique life stories, identities, and strengths. I have most experience working with clients struggling with academic and professional stress, relationship and family issues and conflicts, traumas, emotion regulation, depressive and anxiety symptoms, eating disorders and neurodivergence and executive functioning challenges. Many of my clients started therapy with me because they: - Struggled with anxiety, depressive or eating disorder symptoms and would like to understand more about what triggered and perpetuated the cycle of symptoms and acquire tools to effectively manage them. - are under lots of stress, are overthinkers, or perfectionists who feel depleted and burnt out but feel they cannot stop and are afraid of not living up to others' expectations. - are grappling with the complex and layered meaning and dynamics that come along with the intersectionality of their identities, including, for example, being Asian and Asian American, immigrants, international students, neurodivergence. - wanted to understand more about how relationship problems with loved ones, family and friends started and escalated and how they can start taking actions to build more satisfying relationships. - would like to have a safe space to process through and heal from previous traumas and hurtful experiences and live a life that feels safe, meaningful, and free from past trauma’s lurking shadows. - Wanted to improve their ability to understand and deal with their emotions in a healthy way and improve their emotional resiliency. How do I Help? I am a holistic, relational and humanistic therapist who will create a safe, curious, confidential and non-judgmental space to support you in working through your challenges. Based on your individual strengths, needs and problems, I strive to incorporate interventions from different models of therapy rather than "manualizing" our time together. I believe the healing power of therapy is harnessed through the process of us building a genuine and trusting relationship and us taking a curious stance together to get to know your inner experiences. I believe my role encompasses offering you a safe space to process and make sense of your past experiences and supporting you in creating a life that feels intentional, empowering meaningful and rich for you. I believe every client has their innate strengths, talents and resources that you might feel disconnected from due to stress and traumas. I do not just offer tools to help you feel better now, collaboratively, we will take a step further and explore the patterns and meaning of your emotions, behaviors, thoughts, and relationships. We will also get to the root of the problem and explore how past experiences have shaped you for who you are. I will help you gain insights and clarity to your current situations and connect you with your inner resources and strengths so that you feel empowered and free to write your own life story. While I believe short-term therapy can be helpful for some clients, I gravitate more towards longer-term therapy. I find it usually takes time to help clients build a sense of trust and safety in our therapy relationship, as well as to strengthen their inner resources before they feel emotionally safe enough to explore longstanding patterns and problems. You could read more about the therapeutic interventions and clinical approaches I utilize at the bottom of this page under "approaches". Please feel free to email or call me if you have any questions or would like to explore if I am the right fit for you as a therapist.
