My personal experience has taught me that change can be stressful and uncomfortable and that there are some things in life that we do not have control over. My belief that people are resilient and can navigate through the hard times in life with support is what drew me to my area of focus. It has also deepened my passion for the counseling process. I have worked in several settings, such as hospitals, mental health agencies, and substance abuse clinics, which has helped shape my practice by enhancing my ability to understand my clients’ needs in regard to progress in treatment. I am also trained in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, which has enhanced my ability to recognize symptoms of trauma and understand how they may impact a client and act as an obstacle that keeps them from moving forward. My intake process begins with a free 15-minute phone consultation. If the client thinks that I am a good fit and wants to go forward with the counseling process, an intake is scheduled. During the intake, clients receive a packet that includes a questionnaire, GAD-7, PHQ-9, consent forms, and a grief questionnaire if the concern is bereavement. Progress occurs when there is a level of self-awareness and utilization of skills taught in session. Progress is reviewed every three months and consists of re-administering all assessments that were given at the beginning of treatment. Homework depending on the client. Some interventions and activities are conducted in session. I value authenticity and I encourage all of my clients to embrace the beauty and the flaws that come with being human, as well as to trust the process that can be uncertain but rewarding. My hope for you is that you are able to embrace life as it is and be open to finding new paths to restore your well-being.
