My interest in mental health began while working as a private gardener for elderly gardeners, who worked alongside me. From this relationship, I noticed the positive impact engaging with nature had on their mood and physical health. I went on to study horticulture therapy and incorporated nature into the work I do with substance abuse as a counselor. I hold a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Alaska, and a certificate as Nature-Informed Therapist from the Center for Nature Informed Therapy in Maryland. I have more than 20 years combined experience in community mental health, residential programs and social emotional learning programs in primary schools. I work with clients age teen to elder who experience a wide range of mental health concerns. I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, with a foundation on client centered, strengths based, and trauma informed care. Sometimes and especially during summer, sessions are held outdoors in beautiful Tlingit Aani, Southeast Alaska.
