“Our hands empty except for our hands.” ― Ocean Vuong, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. I work well with clients who are high achieving in their fields, but have difficulty speaking up to advocate for themselves or putting words to complex emotions. I help people explore how their past and early childhood have affected their present anxieties, relationship challenges, and depression. I also offer practical skills that may shift your day-to-day. I have worked primarily with creative adults, LGBTQ+/gender spectrum identified people, and kink/poly/BDSM communities, and people of color. With a PhD in anthropology—the study of culture and what makes us human—and as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT) I aim to create a safe and nurturing space to explore how belonging and rupture may impact your well-being. I approach therapy as a way of listening to unconscious processes in experiences like exile, abjection, and shame. With kindness and a desire to deliver the utmost quality of care, I hope to create a space for you to explore what it feels like to belong. I am certified in the gold standard for first-line treatment (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia or CBT-I, a 5- session treatment). I welcome you to contact me at natnewton@protonmail.com or 714-908-7378.
