Introduction

My name is Nancy Muñoz-Ruiz. I identify as a Mexican-American, Latinx, pronouns she/her. I graduated from Eastern Washington University with a B.A. in Sociology and Women’s & Gender Studies and received my master of science in Counselor Education. My parents immigrated from Mexico to the United States to give my siblings and me a more extraordinary life. During my lifetime, I have faced several challenges, from growing up in a single parent, low-income family to confronting racism within my community and school system. I battled with severe depression, anxiety, and childhood trauma. I believe these experiences helped shaped me into the clinician I am today. I am determined to assist others in breaking the cycle of depression and anxiety that can consume every part of your being—leaving you feeling a sense of hopelessness and helplessness. I have found Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to be one of the most effective types of therapy for depression, anxiety, and trauma from a personal and professional standpoint. In addition, I encourage clients to explore different outlets, such as art therapy and creative writing. I would be more than happy to serve as a guide to help you on your journey to self-healing. Together, I believe we can work towards lifting the dark cloud that is depression and finding healthier coping skills to manage your symptoms better.
