ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS - visit www.milehighmentalhealth.com - email mhmh@milehighmentalhealth.com I love being a psychologist and having the exquisite privilege of being a therapist. I have always gravitated towards people and their stories and been a curious observer looking for patterns and deeper meaning for figuring out who we are and how we relate to each other. I was drawn toward the field of psychology from an early age and after working at a Montessori school after college, I found myself finding my gifts working 1-on-1 with those children who were in some ways struggling, overlooked or misunderstood. It was full steam ahead after that, and I have never looked back. I’ve meandered my way over the last two decades and have worked in a variety of clinical and academic settings with children, teens, adults, couples and families with different diagnoses and presenting concerns. I have always come to the same conclusion – people heal in the context of their relationships. As humans our need for attachment is akin to our need for food and water. A positive therapeutic relationship can facilitate this process. In 2005, my husband and co-founder of Mile High Mental Health, Daniel and I packed up our two cats in our PT Cruiser and moved from California, where we were both born and raised, and put down our roots in Colorado. We now have two amazing and talented children and enjoy being parents and partners in their lives and ours. I am so thrilled to have landed here, at our Yellow House where myself and the hand-picked team at Mile High Mental Health seeks to providing a positive, nurturing and supportive environment to foster healing and psychological wellness. I have been a licensed clinical psychologist since 2005 and have over 20 years of professional clinical experience with children, adolescents and families. I developed and honed my skill and passion for working with families and children/adolescents with eating disorders as Clinical Director for Children’s Hospital Colorado’s internationally recognized eating disorder program for 12 years. I held a faculty appointment as an Associate Professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. I enjoy program development and I have published work in peer-reviewed journals and have presented at multiple national and international conferences primarily showcasing my creative programs. I am also a dedicated teacher and have been a mentor and supervisor for dozens of psychologists, master’s level clinicians, medical students and psychiatry residents and fellows. During these valuable years I gained extensive training in family therapy, including Family Based Treatment (FBT) treatment for eating disorders, Maudsley-based multi-family intensive group therapy and I am a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) and a certified Advanced Therapist in Emotion-Focused Family Therapy (EFFT). I have formal training and experience with a variety of therapeutic modalities including Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and interpersonal and psychodynamic therapy. Prior to working at Children’s, I gained experience and expertise working gifted and twice-exceptional youth and adults. I have worked with leaders in the field of gifted assessment and advocacy and I have the experience to understand the unique social-emotional needs and sensitivities present within gifted and twice-exceptional individuals. Most recently, I became certified in a novel approach to working with trauma primarily through somatic (body-based) processes and have found for some people, this “outside the box” approach to therapy can have a profound impact. While my clinical approach is grounded in and informed by current evidence-based treatments, I practice from an eclectic, holistic and intuitive perspective. I strive to meet each individual/family/couple exactly where they are and believe that everyone has their own unique healing potential within. I see my role as facilitator to explore, discover and connect to that potential. I am a member of the Academy of Eating Disorders, International Association for Disordered Eating Professionals, American Psychological Association, and the Colorado Psychological Association. I also serve as a board member for the Institute for the Study of Advanced Development and I am on the advisory board for the International Institute for Emotion-Focused Family Therapy. I am currently licensed in Colorado (PSY 3019), Oregon, and Utah; and am licensed to practice telehealth through PSYPACT in these additional 42 states.
