Introduction

What brings you to search for a therapist? Maybe you are… struggling with communication and conflict, feeling overwhelmed by grief and pain, looking to find fulfillment in your life, don't know whom you or your partner is anymore, wondering how to address past issues/traumas with your partner, feeling burdened by life and choices, or want to foster more meaningful relationships... Maybe none of these fit you, but instead, you have other reasons for looking for a therapist that focuses on relationships, conflict, and trauma. You’re right where you need to be. At A Mindful Summit, we understand that we are all a work in progress, and we want to help you along that path of guiding your behaviors, thoughts, and emotions to become more enhanced, beneficial, and supportive of the life you envision. So why A Mindful Summit? Every therapist has their own style and techniques, and I liken my own to a hearty and meaningful hike up a gorgeous mountain trail. You get to decide where we are going and what stops to make, while I guide and encourage your progress. This work is not easy, but if you are willing to put in the effort and persistence, a stunning outlook is waiting for you at the top. My interest in science started early in my life. In undergrad, I majored in communication studies and anthropology. The patterns of communication and culture were endlessly fascinating to me. I was captivated by learning about the brain and interpersonal communication. After school, I worked in oncology, both pediatric and adult for several years and was inspired by talking to my patients about how their lives and relationships changed and developed through the painful traumatic process of a cancer diagnosis. While spending 10 years at home raising our 3 beautiful children, I decided to embrace my drive and passion by getting my master’s degree in Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy. My interests and life experiences culminated in focusing on trauma and PTSD in the context of the couple and family. It is the relationship between two people that I find the most compelling. I have spent years learning all I can about the biological, psychological, and spiritual aspects of relationships. Currently, I am working on a PhD in Interpersonal Communication at the University of Texas. My goal in therapy is to provide an empathetic space where couples and individuals can learn more about themselves including how to communicate, conflict, and show and share their love. In my spare time, I love to travel to places new and old, spend time adventuring with my husband of 17 years and our kiddos and serving in my community. Continuing education is important to me. I am a member of the American Psychological Association, the National Communication Association, the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, the Austin Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, Texas Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists.
