Michael Nobo is Licensed Specialist Clinical Social Worker (LSCSW) who is following a long family tradition of helping professionals that include physicians, surgeons, psychologists etc. Michael brings to his work a unique perspective to therapy. Michael is certified as an Integrative Mental Health Professional (CIMHP) through Evergreen, and as such he brings an understanding of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) which includes mental health nutrition. Michael was born and raised in Topeka, KS. Jokingly, Michael likes to say that he was destined to be a therapist, as his parents were therapists. In 2009, Michael’s father passed away. During the memorial service, Michael heard from his father’s client about how he changed their lives and it was at this time that Michael changed his education track from Medicine to Social Work. Michael completed his Masters of Social Work in 2014 at the University of Kansas School of Social Welfare, with a specialization in Social Work Administration and Advocacy. Over the 8 years that Michael has been practicing, he has worked for various not-for-profit mental health and health care organizations largely as an administrator however, also working to keep his therapeutic skills sharp. In September of 2020, Michael completed his CIMHP certification. With the knowledge and skill set this certification provides, Michael is able to help his patients look at the mental health from a holistic perspective that includes movement, nutrition, sleep, breath work etc. to improve a person’s mental health. Michael however, has placed his focus on educating a person on how they may be able to use nutrition alongside psychotherapy to improve their mental health. Michael's unique approach to mental health care and his skills set in CAM leave him equipped to treat a variety of mental health conditions however, he specializes in treating eating disorders, Obsessive and Compulsive Disorders (OCD), anxiety and depression. He is training in and primarily used Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) in practice. Furthermore, Michael has training in Enhanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT-E) for eating disorders, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, and Eye-Movement and Desensitization (EMDR) for traumatic experiences. Lastly, Michael is fluent in Spanish and able to provide all of these interventions in that language. Michael loves his work as a therapist and mental health entrepreneur. He shares that he is both humbled and grateful that people allow him enough to help them with their life challenges, and that when he gets to see their transformations he knows that he has made a difference in this world for another.
