Hello! My name is Michael Charnley and I am a counselor with New Growth Counseling. I became a counselor because I (like most people) have experienced seasons of hardship and darkness. I remember wanting those seasons to end as quickly as possible, but they felt endless when I felt alone. Safe relationships with others who sat with me in the darkness were key to my growth and to moving on to new seasons of life. I became a counselor because I feel called to do that for others, no matter the season or hardship. I graduated from Johnson University with an MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2022, and I have over ten years of experience working with individuals and couples in various individual and group contexts. My approach to counseling, informed by these experiences, centers around building a strong relationship with my clients. I incorporate various models of therapy such as CBT, ACT, and EFT. I use these modalities (and others) with a trauma-informed approach, and I also incorporate interpersonal neurobiology in the counseling room. Whether you think I or another counselor might be able to help you in whatever you are struggling with, I hope you reach out to someone. I am confident that, in a safe relationship, you will find that you do not have to be alone in the dark.
