Hi, I'm Melissa New, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 15 years of experience helping adolescents and adults navigate challenging experiences to feel stronger, happier, and more capable. I use a strengths-based approach that allows clients to uncover patterns causing them stress, identify their inherent abilities, and create meaningful and positive change in their lives. I received my Masters in Social Work from The Catholic University of America and have worked in several clinical areas, including adoption, mental health, grief and loss, and refugee foster care. I studied principles of psychodynamic psychotherapy at The Washington School of Psychiatry and mind body skills at The Center for Mind Body Medicine. I have received extensive training in trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment-based therapies, family systems theory, and trauma-informed care. I have counseled teens and adults in crisis and those facing challenges in their every day lives. My approach is always client-centered and supportive with an unconditional positive regard for the person sitting across from me. I believe that all people have the power to create meaningful change in their lives. My job is to help them along the way. Contact me today to learn more and get started. If you are in crisis and need immediate help, call 911 or 988, the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
