Introduction

Welcome to Teaghlach Counseling. I am happy you are here! Teaghlach (pronounced /chye-lukh/) means family in Irish Gaelic. Family is the primary focus at Teaghlach Counseling, which is why I say my practice is “family first focused”. Family is a subjective term, meaning that there is no “normal” when it comes to identifying what a family means to you. I strive to be supportive for all family types and situations. Whether you are looking for support for your child dealing with anxiety or anger, or for yourself, individually or along your partner, to grow in your familial relationships, I hope that you find Teaghlach Counseling to be the support your family needs. Children- Teaghlach Counseling specializes in working with children and adolescents experiencing a variety of challenges including behavior, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts and family change & dynamics. I use age-appropriate activities and conversations to teach children and adolescents about their brains, why they may behave the way they do and the power of our brain to change and grow. When children can identify what is happening in their brain, identify feelings, not only in others, but also from the internal and external cues their own body gives, and build a toolbox of strategies to regulate themselves, the potential for change increases exponentially. Parents- If only a user’s manual was provided when our babies came home from the hospital! Parent’s often wonder if they are doing anything right in raising their children and parenthood in general can feel overwhelming. Add these worries on top of typical stressors like marriage/relationships, work, socializing and the rest of the world, it is easy to feel a loss of self and control. At Teaghlach Counseling, I recognize the incredibly important job that you have as a parent and offer support with parent coaching, parent/child connection, parent-to-parent relationships and generalized needs like symptoms of anxiety. As a dysregulated adult cannot help regulate a child, supporting parents is arguably my most important work. Family Reunification- Whether due to divorce, deployment or other external forces, reunifying children with parents after a gap in contact can feel overwhelming for both the child and adults involved. Having a third party to mediate these first meetings can ease some of the pressure for everyone involved.
