I have worked in the field of Counseling, and Mental Health since 1991. I believe in the power of human connection, and enjoy explaining the mysteries of the human condition in simple words. I am a strength based therapist. My goal is to blend a sense of empathy, warmth and skill to help people confront their joys and pains and be motivated to change. All of this gives me energy, and a profound sense of meaning and purpose when I wake up in the morning. I approach my work with the knowledge and understanding that every individual is a culmination of genetics, environment, and experiences. Mental health counseling is a highly personal experience; and one of the most powerful ways for people not to feel deeply alone is for them to feel listened to. There is no, "one size fits all" approach, or "band-aid" solution. My process is collaborative. I know that people are the experts of their own experiences and my goal is to help them expand their awareness and understanding of these experiences. From this, clients have the ability to articulate their feelings and develop new frameworks which create meaning and allow for greater vitality. I recieved my Master's Degree in Conseling from the University of Illinois, graduating as a member of the Phi-Kappa-Phi High Honor Society. I have specialized training with adolescents, adults and couples. I have been a Clinical Supervisor, and have trained other clinicians in the area of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Behavioral Modification, social cognition, and self regulation. I have advanced training in Exposure Therapies for the treatment of Anxiety Spectrum Disorders across the lifestan. My aproach when working with couples is based on the principals of the Gottman Method. Throughout my career I have practiced Counseling in a vast array of clinical settings providing all levels of Mental Health Care. I am currently accepting new clients in person and through Tele-Health.
