Hi, I’m Maya Thompson, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor dedicated to creating an inclusive, empowering, and culturally responsive space for healing and growth. I bring a warm, grounded presence to therapy, combining somatic and trauma-informed approaches with evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method. My approach is collaborative and client-centered—I meet clients where they are, helping them cultivate self-awareness, regulate their nervous system, strengthen communication, and move through life transitions with resilience and clarity. Currently, I'm completing my Doctorate at USC in Mental Health Leadership, and I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and hold a Behavioral Health Support Specialist Certificate with a focus on the LGBTQ+ population from UCLA Extension. I also received my undergraduate degree in World Arts and Cultures from UCLA, with a minor in Film Studies. My professional experience spans working with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, and relational challenges. I specialize in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients, using a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and somatically integrative lens. Clients often describe me as compassionate, grounded, and real. I approach therapy as a co-created journey, where healing is fostered through authenticity, connection, and intention. My work is informed by my own lived experience as the daughter of an immigrant and someone who values spirituality, creativity, and cultural nuance. I draw on mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and expressive arts to help clients find their voice, reconnect with themselves, and move forward with confidence. I believe in holding a space that is safe, nonjudgmental, and empowering so that each client feels truly seen, heard, and supported.
