Mary Rose's Bio Welcome! I am a clinical social worker and the founder of Flying Bagel Counseling Services. I work with individuals and families of all ages in homes or out in the community, in office in Port Orchard, and via telehealth. Throughout my career, I have worked with clients facing a wide variety of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, personality disorders, self-harm, substance and alcohol use, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and intellectual and developmental differences. I have experience working with survivors of interpersonal violence, American Indian families, and LGBTQ+ clients including trans clients. In my practice, I utilize humor and play to help clients tap into their strengths and meet their goals. While diagnoses may be required for billing, I view my clients through a developmental lens and as whole individuals in their environments - not simply as disorders. I hold a master’s degree in social work from Boise State University, and am certified in Infant Early Childhood Mental Health from the University of Minnesota. I am also certified in Attachment Biobehavioral Catch-up (ABC)-Infant and ABC-Early Childhood (6 months to 4 years) and have received training Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), narrative therapy, strengths-based approaches, and co-occurring disorders. With experience working in legal settings, residential and inpatient settings, outpatient clinic settings, telehealth, and school settings including early childhood and K-12, I offer a variety of services including group facilitation, professional consultation, and home visiting with families. Kristin's Bio Kristin Deforest is a dedicated and compassionate MSW student intern with an interest in therapy for individuals who have experienced childhood trauma, historical trauma, and sexual abuse. With a deep understanding of the profound impact these experiences can have on individuals’ lives, Kristin is committed to providing a safe and supportive environment where clients can heal and grow. Kristin’s training and expertise encompass a range of evidence-based therapeutic modalities. She has received specialized training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), which focuses on helping individuals process and cope with traumatic experiences. This approach integrates cognitive-behavioral techniques with trauma-specific interventions to facilitate healing and resilience. In addition to TF-CBT, Kristin has a solid foundation in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a therapeutic approach that addresses the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. She skillfully guides clients in identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, developing healthy coping strategies, and fostering positive change. Kristin is also trained in motivational interviewing, a collaborative and person-centered approach that empowers clients to explore and resolve ambivalence about making changes in their lives. She skillfully guides clients in identifying their own motivations and strengths, helping them to build confidence and make meaningful progress towards their therapeutic goals. Utilizing a strengths-based perspective, Kristin believes in the innate resilience and potential for growth within each individual. She is passionate about highlighting and nurturing clients’ existing strengths and resources, promoting self-empowerment and resilience throughout the therapeutic journey. As an MSW student intern, Kristin is committed to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with the latest research and best practices in trauma therapy. She believes in the transformative power of therapy and feels honored to be a part of her clients’ healing process.
