Maria B. Wiggins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who received her Master of Social Work from New York University. She has over 13 years of practice experience. Before joining Willow Counseling Collective, her career began working in the Bronx, NY, serving women in high-risk situations throughout their pregnancies. She later worked for the Department of the Army for seven years, treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Maria's unique approach to therapy sets her apart. Her areas of specialty include treating trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, and stress management. She draws from an eclectic pool of frameworks, tailoring a unique and individualized treatment plan for each client. She believes in a holistic approach and integrates auricular acupuncture (if requested) into her care to enhance a mind-body connection. She is trained in several evidenced-based modalities, but uses EMDR the most often. She has dedicated years to honing her craft of EMDR, becoming a certified EMDR therapist, and studying under experts in the field to help clients connect their present-day struggles to past events and empower them to create the future vision of their dreams. Maria's commitment to the mental health field is unwavering. Seeing the impact of burnout, compassion fatigue, and limited supervision, she has made it one of her career missions to provide exceptional clinical supervision, case consultation, and education. She is a Board Approved Supervisor and an EMDR Consultant in Training (CIT), accepting individuals for clinical supervision and colleagues for consultation. She is also in the process of designing courses to assist in the field. In her spare time, Maria enjoys spending time with her family, reading, traveling, trying new food, and hiking.
