Introduction

Hi, welcome to my page, My name is Maria and I am a therapist who is passionate about helping people through therapy. A little background about me- My career started over 10 years ago with a faith based organization that serviced a very diverse NYC population and then I moved on to direct clinical work with a neighborhood mental health clinic. Afterwards I started my own practice so I can provide my clients with the highest quality of care without any limitations beyond my control. My approach as a therapist is flexible because I understand the importance of your individuality. My environment feels safe, supportive and comfortable whether it is your first attempt at therapy or you've had past experiences. I work with teens, adults of all ages and couples/parents. I specialize in treatment of anxiety and depression and I have a lot of experience working with college students, perinatal support, body positivity, relationship issues and self esteem. I have advanced training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). I also pull from other methodologies depending on what your unique needs might be. I sometimes use worksheets, recommend books and phone apps to support the work we do together. I am interactive and engaging in my sessions and I always encourage feedback on what feels comfortable or needs some tweaking and has been useful. Starting therapy is an intimidating process but choosing the right therapist to walk you through your discomfort makes all the difference. Once we connect, usually over the phone, I will walk you through the starting process. We will go over the challenges and issues you want to explore and I will describe the framework around my practice. Together we will build a plan that is tailored to you and feels comfortable. I encourage you to ask me questions and talk through any hesitations you might have. We can go over frequency of sessions and any questions you might have about payment or insurance.
