Maria began her education and training at the University of Redlands where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Creating Well-being through Human Connection (incorporating psychology, sociology, and ethics). She went on to train at the Family Institute of Northwestern University where she graduated with a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy. Maria is passionate about advocating for her clients and giving back to her community, including those in the LGBTQ+ community and Spanish-Speaking clients who often struggle to find services. She believes therapy can be an important tool for change in working towards personal goals and approaches therapy collaboratively with the client to make therapy a space that serves their needs with compassion and without judgment. Maria has experience working with individuals, couples, and families on a variety of mental health concerns such as depression, anxiety, family conflict, grief, trauma, immigration, gender and identity exploration/transition, and couple conflict/communication. Her therapeutic approach draws on components of Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to connect with the client’s values and goals. During her free time, she enjoys reading, playing the piano, video games, and spending time with her family.
