I believe we are all on a journey to self- discovery and being our authentic selves takes work. We want to be seen, heard, and understood. Are you looking for someone that will actively listen to your thoughts and feelings? Malakeia Scott is a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) with 7 + years of experience in social work. After graduating from Clark Atlanta University and obtaining a Masters degree in social work, her career began with counseling adolescents and teens with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. Shortly afterward, she worked as a hospice social worker providing clients and their families with emotional support, resources and navigating end-of-life care. She also served as a Therapeutic Support Specialist with the Division of Children and Family Services at the state office. She served the state of Georgia and its most vulnerable youth in the child welfare system. This included consulting with DFCS partners and other state-level agencies on complex mental health concerns. Malakeia returned to the medical setting as a dialysis social worker providing education, resources, and brief therapeutic services to individuals adjusting to life on dialysis. Treatment Approach Malakeia utilizes evidence-based approaches, her background and Bachelors degree in psychology, and a Masters in Social Work. Those approaches include an Afrocentric perspective, strength-based practice, humanistic values, and an interest in existential therapy. In a world full of systems, it can be challenging to navigate our world, society, and relationships, all while showing up as our authentic selves. The Afrocentric perspective allows us to look at ourselves and know that our subjective- lived experiences matter. The core components encompass the intersections of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability status, and social class. This approach allows you to explore your values, beliefs, and goals. She believes the strength-based approach applies to all as we can make meaningful decisions, choices and are resilient. The human experience is about creating meaning and purpose. She is here to help you answer those questions through collaborative efforts between client and therapist . Our life also comes with constant change that can disrupt “our normal” lives. Malakeia believes she can help you navigate those changes, even when our brain resists change, she wants to help you adapt and enjoy those changes.
