She has also served as an adjunct field instructor, mentoring the next generation of mental health professionals. Dr. Austin works with couples, families, and adults, specializing in treating childhood trauma and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) using evidence-based treatment modalities such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). Her extensive career includes work in diverse settings such as community mental health, school social work, nursing homes, acute care hospitals, inpatient psychiatric facilities, community health organizations, and private practice. Drawing from a range of therapeutic approaches—including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), psychoeducation, play therapy, behavior modification, mindfulness, and relaxation techniques—Dr. Austin tailors treatment to meet the unique needs of each client. Dr. Austin believes in a collaborative, strengths-based approach, working closely with clients to address challenges and achieve meaningful goals. She emphasizes the importance of considering all aspects of a client’s life, including physical health, support systems (family, friends), work or school environment, and faith or spirituality, to promote overall well-being. Uniquely qualified to address unresolved trauma and unhealed spaces, Dr. Austin provides a safe and compassionate environment for clients to heal and grow. A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, she brings the discipline and dedication of her military background to her practice. She is also married to her husband of nearly 25 years, a retired United States Navy veteran. In her free time, Dr. Austin enjoys reading psychological thrillers, playing with her two Shih Tzus, Freddie Bailey and Mercy Grace, exploring new recipes as a cooking enthusiast, playing board games, and traveling to new destinations.
