Introduction

For more than a decade, Dr. Tims has assisted both adolescents and adults through challenges with depression, grief, trauma, life changes, anxiety, substance use and recovery, relationship issues and identity development. He understands the importance of providing a safe, non-judgmental, and welcoming space for his clients. He believes that growth occurs within an environment of trust and support. With Dr. Tims, you will find a compassionate ally who encourages and guides you throughout your journey. Dr. Tims provides individual therapy to young adults and adults experiencing a range of concerns including substance use, trauma, depression, identity development, difficult life transitions, and the unique stressors that individuals face, as well as the often not-so-healthy ways we deal with them. Dr. Tims also enjoys helping people find clarity when they may not have their finger on exactly what they hope to work on, yet know they are seeking growth and change. Dr. Tims provides a warm and inviting space to explore these feelings and experiences in session so that individualized goals can be developed. He believes therapy is not just for when things feel difficult, it can also be beneficial for people seeking insight into their worldviews, interpersonal patterns, and self-concept. His approach to counseling is person-centered and emphasizes trust, connection, and authenticity in the relationship, while highlighting and reconnecting people to their intrinsic strengths to help them attain optimal wellness. He also utilizes techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing. Dr. Tims is a graduate of the University of S. Alabama with a master’s in science in Applied Psychology. He also has a PhD in public health with a minor in mental health counseling.
